Former manager Reid rules out Sunderland return

12/08/2008 - Sunderland, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former Sunderland boss Peter Reid insists he has no intention of returning to the Stadium of Light for a second spell as manager.

The 52-year-old, who is currently in charge of the Thailand national team, spent seven years at the helm of the Black Cats prior to his departure in 2002, but has ruled out the prospect of a return to Wearside.

Reid had earlier been quoted as saying he would be interested in going back to the club, but said after watching Thailand beat Laos 6-0: "I said that in a certain amount of time I want go back to England, but I have a contract in Thailand that I want to fulfill.

"I didn't say I wanted to go back to Sunderland. Sometimes in England you get misquoted."

Former Bolton and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce remains the front-runner for the vacancy, which was created by Roy Keane's resignation last week.
